Beagle Dog Breed


The Beagle is known for being strong and appealing dog breed with lots of energy. Just like other hound dogs, beagle dogs were bread for hunting. Because of that, you should keep your yard fenced so your beagle dog doesn’t wander off in search of some wild animals.

Beagle dogs are extremely friendly and playful. They get exceptionally well with children and other house pets that you might have, like cats or other dogs. They have a lot of energy and stamina and need to be exercises regularly. So having a playmate for them is actually fun especially if they are kids because both enjoy running and having fun.

This is why training can be a little difficult at first especially if you are an inexperienced dog trainer. They will learn fast but it’s their smell that can get the distracted from training. If the pick up a scent during training, they can forget about everything easily and start following where it leads. So make sure to keep your beagle dog on a leash when going out to the park or other places where he can pick up a scent of different animal.

Beagle Dog Size:

Beagles are small to medium sized scent hound dogs. They can vary between 13 and 15 inches at shoulder height and their weight is around 20-35 pounds.

Feeding a Beagle Dog:

Because this breed is likely to put on weight, 1-2 meals per day are sufficient for an adult Beagle with no tidbits.  Recommended amount of feeding is 1-1 ½ cans (13.3oz size) of meat diet with added biscuits in equal amount or 3 cupfuls of a complete dry food. Exercising a Beagle Dog :

Daily exercise such as walks and occasional runs is required for this breed because they are natural hunters. Taking out your beagle dog to the park couple of times a week is perfect to keep the beagle dog in shape and healthy. You can also play fun games like fetch with your beagle to keep him helthy.

Grooming Beagles:

Beagles require minimum grooming because their coat is tough and doesn’t get dirty very easily. However, it is still recommended that you give your beagle a bath regularly to have them smelling clean. Try to avoid dog perfume because often times the smell is too strong for the beagle dog nose and can irritate them.
