Housebreaking a Beagle Puppy

beagleguiltyWhen you buy a beagle puppy your first goal should be to housebreak the little puppy. Remember that 9 times out of 10 the puppies are not housebroken when you buy them. So you will be left with the challenge of training your newly acquired beagle puppy to not pee or poop inside your house.

Beagles are one of the smaller breeds and their puppies are even smaller. This means that beagle puppies will have tiny bladders and will not be able to hold out for too long before they have to go pee or poop. It is your responsibility to take out your beagle puppy out for a walk so he can do his business every three to four hours.

You will also have to let the beagle puppy know that you are happy with it peeing or pooping outside. This can be accomplished by praising your beagle puppy whenever it goes outside and does his business or by giving him a small treat. After a while your  beagle puppy will note that peeing or pooping outside will get him a treat and doing his business inside will get him punished.

If your beagle puppy manages to pee or poop inside the house, you should clean it up immediately. The odder tells dogs that they have done their business there before so they will be inclined to pee or poop there again. You can find a special spray that helps kill the odder to ensure your god doesn’t pee or poop there again.
