Training a beagle puppy to sit is probably the first trick that beagle dog owners teach their dogs. Training a beagle puppy to sit first is advised since the sit command comes in handy while training other tricks like stay and come here. Before you begin training the beagle puppy to sit, you need to find a good quiet spot to eliminate as much distraction as you can. You will need the beagle dogs’ full attention for training. You will also need some treats for training the beagle puppy to sit.

Once it is just you and the beagle puppy in a quiet environment you can begin training. Get your beagle puppy to stand in front of you and show the treat. While training the beagle to sit, hold the treat right above the dogs head. Holding the treat too high will result in the beagle puppy jumping after it to get it and that’s not what you want. Now move your hand towards the beagle puppy and tell it to sit. Naturally the dog would move back or sit. If your dog doesn’t sit during this part of training then try again by bringing your hand back in front of the beagle puppy and repeating the process.

When your beagle puppy sits give him the treat and pat him on the back. Keep training the beagle dog like this another 4-5 times or until it understands that you want him to sit down. Once you trained the beagle puppy to sit down while moving your hand with a dog treat towards it you can move on to the next part of training. This time while training a beagle puppy to sit, don’t move your hand. Just hold the treat in front of the dogs’ nose and tell the beagle to sit.

Eventually when your beagle puppy starts sitting down with a treat, you can try training it with no treat at all. It will take a day or two get the beagle puppy to sit. After you are done training it is a good idea to refresh the dogs’ memory every now and then so the beagle puppy doesn’t forget what you expect of it.
