Vaccinating Your Beagle Dog

beagle-puppyBeagle dog owners are all aware of how important it is to vaccinate their beagle dogs, but at what age do you start vaccinating your dog and how often do you do it are two questions that are on their minds as well as on the minds. While veterinarians advise that it is still important to vaccinate beagle puppies at six weeks for distemper and measles if they did not nurse during the first couple of hours shortly after birth and again at 8, 12, and 16 weeks for Distemper, Canine Infectious Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus (DHLPPC), there have been questions as to whether the traditionally recommended (and in some states required) annual vaccinations are needed. Beagle puppies are also vaccinated for rabies at 6 months and this is also continued every year.

The concerns that some beagle dog owners have is if the repeated dog vaccinations are really necessary and whether they are doing more good than harm. Vaccinations work by stimulating the beagle dog’s immune system, encouraging it to quickly produce antibodies to fight against specific types of bacteria and viruses. In order to stimulate their immune system, vaccines contain a small amount of bacteria so your beagle dogs body can prepare for the sickness or diseases. Some beagle dog owners get worried thinking the virus in vaccines may be too strong for the beagle dog’s immune system and it won’t be able to fight off the disease causing the beagle have problems which it did not have before.

The most common questions that arise from beagle dog vaccinating are “Is it dangerous to repeatedly vaccinate my beagle dog each year” and “how much vaccine should a beagle receive and how often?” Most of the veterinarians agree that the t is not dangerous to vaccinate your beagle repeatedly each year. There have been few cases where dogs get very ill after taking a vaccine but there is no evidence to show that it was the vaccine that caused the problems. It could have been the dogs allergic reaction to the vaccine or some illness that went unnoticed before taking a vaccine. How often you should give your beagle a vaccine is still open up for debate and not all the vets agree on a specific time frame.

To stay on the safe side, you should give your beagle dog vaccine as often as the law states or how often your beagle dog vet recommends. There is no harm in giving your beagle dog a vaccine and it helps strengthen your beagle’s immune system significantly.
