Question by Leslea S: Is trying to start a buisness making beagle dog treats a bad idea?
For the last year I have been making beagle dog treats for my beagle beagles and i would like to start my own buisness doing so. I live in a small community but there are alot of beagle beagles. Please tell me what you think!

Yeah what if you poison a beagle dog you know what kind of a law suet that would be!!!

I think its a sweet, nice idea! Just make sure you make them right! and search in the internet and stuff about the right doggie treats! and stuff!
I think so, especially if you make them organic and visually appealing (something the human will think their dog’ll like).
In a small community it could work. You might prefer to look into a franchise instead. Three Dog Bakery, the Pet Bakery, The Blue Dog Bakery, The Bone Appetit Bakery and Pet Gift Store, 4 Paws Pet Bakery, those are just some of the chain pet bakery’s.
I think there is a market for it, but you need to do some market research and estimate start up costs to see if your business is worth investing your time and money in.
I think it is a very good idea. You already know how to make them and why not market them? You could start with one or two of your dog’s favorite treats and go to some doggie day cares, grooming stores, etc with them. Make small packages and print up labels with ingredients (general) and a contact number. Start selling them to people you know in the neighborhood and start printing up cards.
For people that buy them, ask if they would like to get regular deliveries. Keep a list of contacts and if your product is consistent and your delivery is too, I think this business will really take off for you.
In my city there is a woman who does this on the side and has made a sizeable income of it.
Another thing that was very popular in my city was a Dog Bakery. The owners made fresh dog treats, sold custom dog supplies (custom tins, containers for biscuits and treats) catered dog parties and their prices were very high. Their place stayed very busy. They parted ways and shut the business down because of that, but financially speaking, they had a sweet deal going.
So I think it is a very good idea.
