Beagle Dog Training: Simple Tips

From my experience, every beagle dog owner that I know say they love their beagle and wouldn’t pick any other dog breed over them. They are adorable and great dogs and have a friendly personality. Of course when it comes to training, most of the time you won’t find them so cute anymore.

Like a lot of dog breeds, the beagle dog breed has a short attention span and can sometimes be hard to train. Of course if you want to train your beagle, you will have to put a little more effort than with most breeds or you won’t see results. To train a beagle dog, you must have a lot of patients. Of course as the result of your efforts, you will have a well behaved and a happy beagle dog on your hands.

Cute Beagle DogsBeagles were originally bred as hunting dogs so this means that they are good at tracking down wild animals. This might sound like a good thing at first, but if you try to train your beagle dog, chances are he will pick up a smell, or a lead if you prefer, to something new and unfamiliar and will be distracted quite easily. They are also used to a lot of chasing a lot of running, so by nature they are very energetic. This too can cause of a lot of distractions, especially if your teaching commands like sit or stay where your beagle wants to do the opposite and run around.

To avoid running in these type of situations, you must pick the right time and place before you start training your beagle puppy. If you’re just starting training, avoid outdoors like the park or your back yard where there could have been another animal passing by recently leaving their smell for your beagle to track them down. You should also pick a good time to train your beagle dog. A good time would be when he is a bit tired and isn’t full of energy. Keeping the attention of a slightly tired beagle is a lot easier than it is to keep an attention of a beagle dog which is full of energy.

Remember that since you’re the owner of your beagle dog, it is your responsibility as a pack leader to train your beagle well. It is your duty to apply beagle training techniques to keep your beagle dog happy and healthy.
